Susan Stegall

I'm addicted to creating!  Clay was my first true love and then I had an affair with glass.  These two mediums work fantastically together and I couldn't imagine life without either.

When I am commissioned to make a piece, I like for my client to have a large part in design.  I merge my technique with their vision and alter my own predisposed notions to let their inner artist shine.  It's important to me to be humble and open to the learning opportunities brought by other humans and their experiences.

In my own work I enjoy playing with pattern and color.  I am currently exploring animal imagery in glass.  I also enjoy creating work based on video games and pop culture.

I want to put as much positive energy in the world as possible.  I teach art classes to boost this energy through the joy of creation.  Whether the actual work of art is cheerful or melancholy,  our emotions are given space, time and healing through our creative process.

I also enjoy rock painting and hiding rocks for kiddos to find.  Not only does this give them the joy of finding treasure, but it hopefully instills an appreciation for art and visual imagery.  I love watching from a distance when a child finds one of my rocks,  it's such a positive energy boost for me and the kiddo.

Perhaps I should focus on one medium, technique or specific body of work...but that's not me.  I was labeled "Jack A$@ of All Trades" by one of my college professors. 14 years later... I proudly agree! I'm finally a master Jack A$@!
